csa love

For some time now I’ve been online browsing for a “just right for us” CSA.  After a month of comparisons and deliberations I received my first delivery from Farm Fresh To You.  I was informed of FFTY via a third party recommendation and the first box did not disappoint.  I went with the regular mix which is a fruit/veggie combo.  Today I received: shucked corn, a bunch of chard, a huge head of green leaf lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, an onion, rosemary, strawberries, a cantaloupe, apricots, white peaches, oranges and lemons.  So far we’ve sampled the cantaloupe, strawberries and I munched on the lettuce while I was washing it….it was goo-ood.

I was originally going to join a CSA that would have me driving to Cherry Valley every other Saturday.  The price and selection was great but giving up half a Saturday twice a month not so great.  The delivery service and the flexibility of FFTY sold me on it.  I have signed up for every other week but am able to customize what’s in my box, put the service on hold or change my delivery frequency whenever I need to.  That my friends is very convenient.  I’ll report back in a month or so and let you know how it’s going.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in some quid pro quo, I have a promo code that will give you a discount and if you mention my name I’ll get a little something too.  Let me know if you’re interested!

{things of thanks} a pretty much weekly post of gratitude for happenings of the week past

This past week kept me busy mostly with the preparation of hosting a table at the last annual Women’s Guild Tea at our church.  I say last annual because the Women’s Guild announced that they will no longer be hosting the event.  My prayer is that enough of us other women in the church can pickup where they left off and continue to raise funds in this tradition.  On that note, I am thankful for…

A successful Tea made up of a lovely afternoon sharing a table with some of my favorite women on this earth.

A day with my Mom and my girls (always makes me happy)

New shoes for the girls

Some really great berries from the farmer’s market…seriously, really great

{things of thanks} a pretty much weekly post of gratitude for happenings of the week past

Oops, forgot to post this last night.  Let’s see, some of the things I am thankful for this past week are…

Celebrating being Mommy to my babes, receiving generous gifts for my role and wearing a cute new dress to mark the occasion.

Driving the Ortega Hwy and up a private, winding, very hilly road to see a friend’s new house, feed her chickens and escape to nature.

A family centric Saturday ending with Husband and I getting to watch a movie while the wee ones slept.  We finally got around to watching There Will Be Blood.  MAN, by the end of the movie I sure did feel like I just sped read a Steinbeck novel.

All for now.  I leave you with a shot of Charlotte feeding the chickens…a first for her.

shop shout out

See the sweet little top Delia is wearing?  Well, this is the kind of swag you can score at Sweet B’s new vintage clothing shop.  If you like putting your kids in thrifted gear you should check it out.

Editors Note- the shirt was clean when I put it on her in that morning…she falls down a lot.

yay for images!

Anyone want to take a guess as to what I might have received for Mom’s Day????

If you guessed a camera you’re absolutely correct!  I We have been without a camera for awhile now and I have had such guilt in missing so much of Delia’s moments.  Husband bent under the pressure and got momma the camera she’s been wanting for quite some time.  He’s such a dear husband.  For not knowing how to use the thing and having it set on all auto functions the above shot came out quite nice, if I do say so myself.  The best part of a really good camera is that now people can see our kids the way we do (the cute sides, anyway).  So, on that note, here’s a close up of cutie D.

{things of thanks} a pretty much weekly post of gratitude for happenings of the week past

Here are a few things that have made me grateful to be me this week:

Time alone with just me and my mum (husband took the kiddos to his folks today and I got to hang out for a few hours alone with my lovely mommy :)

Beautiful spring weather that allowed for multiple park visits, mid-morning walks, lots of afternoon bubble blowing sessions and jeans cut at the knee

Baby D requesting to go potty on the toilet…early, but adorable

Lunch with Lisa and Vallee (and my girls, of course)

And finally, the sale of one of my car seat canopies

buh-bye, fb

In case you decide to delete your facebook account, for whatever reason, you might find this groovy post helpful in walking you through the steps.  “Why do I need a tutorial on how to delete my account”, you ask?  Well, the smart folks at facebook have made truly deleting your account an extremely convoluted process, as you will see if you read the linked article.

I originally started a fb account to keep in touch with those I left behind in Boston.  Then members of my extended family who live half way across the country started to join so there was even more of a reason to have an account.  But, if you are my friend on fb you know first hand that I don’t really use the sucker.  So, as of late I have been playing with the idea of removing myself from the network completely. My decision was finalized after my bro-in-law sent an email with 10 very strong reasons to do so (if interested in reading his compelling email let me know and I’ll forward it along).

So today I say goodbye to fb…we’ll see if any of my far away “friends” even notice :)

unfeignedly thankful

In an attempt to breathe some life into this blog-o-mine I have decided to wrap up each week with a list of things I am thankful for.  I have no camera at this time so text alone will have to do for this post.

This week I am thankful for…

the birth of my niece Josefina, my sister’s first daughter and second child!

living close enough to the ocean that I can visit it whenever the need hits

the replacement glass for my french press

Sunday baseball with friends

getting over illness (that wasn’t really all that bad to begin with)

Charlotte’s impromptu impression of someone doing an impression of Paula Deane “let’s get started, y’all!”
